Hanna and Beto are quite possibly the most beautiful and caring people we have ever met. We knew this Antigua maternity shoot was going to be amazing from the start. The first conversations online about the possibility of photographing them and their family business (Hobbitenango) we immediately connected. After arriving in Guatemala Hobbitenango was one of our first stops. Partially to see the lovely landscape, but mostly to finally meet these amazing people. We arrived to hear the giggles of sweet Leo who was running up and down the mountainside. Covered in dirt all over his happy adorable little face with the wind blowing through his long curly hair. Hanna and Beto were holding each other tight and watching him from a distance as he continued to roll balls down the mountain.
I remember one of the first things I noticed was the way Beto looked at Hanna. Almost as if it was the first time he had seen her. With all the hustle and bustle around them he gazed at her as if she was literally all he was seeing in that moment. They put everything they have into each other, Leo, and their business. We spent many days with the three, well four of them, before we started talking about photographing their family. So one morning, towards the last days of our trip we made a plan to spend some time photographing their little tribe. It just so happens they live in an amazing bohemian home nestle on the edge of Antigua.
As we were getting our cameras ready we were greeted by the sounds of Hanna placing an old jazz record while Beto made a few phone calls. All the while in their home office Hanna and Leo quietly sat and finished getting ready. We packed up and took a little walk around the most beautiful neighborhood I have ever seen. Leo brought along his soccer ball, and we just wandered the streets camera to our eye in hopes of not missing a second of the joy between this little family.
