This was our second time being to Silver Lake Dune. It’s not much of a dune and more of a sci-fi type scape with breath taking scenes no matter the direction. From a humble parking lot with a sign reading “Silver Lake Dune” to the atrocious climb that awaits it’s surreal. You get lost. Passing piles of discarded shoes and sandals still neatly kept as pairs one almost thinks it to be naive to abandon their own. After the first few sets of stairs you quickly realize your demise as the stairs abruptly turns to sand. By removing your shoes you now accept the fate that you will carry a few grains of sand with you for the next week.
All these thoughts might be from the lack of oxygen, due to the climb, or maybe it’s the inability to believe you’re still in Michigan. You know the state that houses The Motor City. A state that is humble in size, but brags of it’s greatness. The more we explore the more we find Michigan oddly attractive. We’re both from other states so we don’t bond with the “Up-North” crowd or have a history rooted in Michigan culture. Yet every time we are brought to new areas by our couples we don’t want to leave. Silver Lake Dune was definitely an encounter with the admiration for natures beauty. It’s a spot we want to return to often to reflect. To take more photographs of couples who express love as inspiring as the dunes themselves.
